Lyle Lehman grew up Amish in Shipshewana, Indiana, in the heart of one of the largest Amish communities in the United States. He learned roofing working for contractors around Shipshewana in 2010 and 2011, picking up weekend and after-hours jobs alongside his day work. One of those contractors saw enough in him to tell him to start his own company.

In 2015, Lyle did exactly that. He co-founded Better Way Roofing with Keith, who is Amish, and built the company on the values they were both raised with: discipline, responsibility, and a deep discomfort with shortcuts.

Today, Better Way Roofing has completed over 1,000 projects across Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan. The company holds 302 five-star Google reviews, a 5.0 Google rating, a 4.9 Facebook rating, and an A+ BBB rating.

Lyle personally oversees operations and stays involved at the project level. If a homeowner doesn't need a new roof, he'll say so. If a piece of trim is slightly short, it doesn't get a pass. The step flashing hidden behind your siding that you'll never see once the roof is finished? Lyle's crew replaces it or verifies it's intact, because that's what keeps water out for the next 20 years.

Growing up Amish meant learning discipline and responsibility early. Lyle has said it didn't feel like much fun at the time, but looking back, it shaped everything about how he runs a business.
